In Memoriam – Dr. John Swift
With regret the Department of Family Medicine wishes to acknowledge the death of Dr. John Swift on April 27, 2016.
Dr. Swift was a dedicated and passionate family physician, who completed his family medicine residency at Queen’s University in Kingston and began practice in one of the Queen’s Family Medicine teaching units. Dr. Swift also practiced in Hamilton and in London, where he became Chief of palliative care at Parkwood Hospital in 1992, and was instrumental in establishing a palliative care unit at Victoria Hospital. He worked tirelessly for his palliative care patients and provided a great deal of education in palliative care for family physicians and family medicine residents. Ironically, Dr. Swift died on the same day that many family physicians in the Department were updating their skills in palliative care at a planned education session, evidence of the ongoing strong commitment of family physicians to palliative care practice.
The Department of Family Medicine wishes to offer our condolences to Dr. Swift's wife Eleanor and his many children and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are outlined in the obituary notice.
