Rural - Petrolia Program Curriculum

If you prefer another location other than what is listed below, please indicate it on your preferences survey; however, we cannot guarantee that a resident’s preference can be accommodated.
Features of our Rural - Petrolia Program
The curriculum in Petrolia is designed to prepare residents for comprehensive family practice, in rural settings or elsewhere. Designed with the most recent “Triple-C” Curriculum features, this new program ensures residents are competent and capable to practice family medicine in all its spheres.
The first year of the program aims to develop solid foundations in various electives, including Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, ICU, and other off-service rotations. Residents from the program have praised the immense learning experience and independence afforded by being learners in rotations where they have had exclusive clinical responsibilities and teaching with their staff consultants.
Building on the first year of residency, the learner spends the majority of the second year placed in the core family practice. This facilitates continuity of care and allows the resident to work as a family physician for a group of patients. Residents are then given the opportunity to pursue horizontal electives during their family medicine training, providing clinical exposure in their own areas of interest. Elective blocks allow the resident to further refine his/her training.
Residents in this program are expected to live in the Sarnia/Petrolia region for the entire duration of the training program.
