Features of our Chatham-Kent Program
This is a program designed by community Family Physicians with the practice goal of comprehensive Family Medicine in mind. The preceptors are highly involved in hospital work in this community as Most Responsible Physicians for 65 Medicine patients, 60 Rehab and Continuing Care patients, Intrapartum Obstetrical Care with shared on-call for GP Obstetrics, and coverage as CCFP / CCFP EM for a busy Emergency Department in a 300-bed Community Hospital. There is also now a community hospice.
The curriculum in Chatham-Kent is a hybrid curriculum that combines a rotation-based curriculum in PGY1 and a horizontal curriculum in PGY2. This design is to allow residents to optimally experience being a family physician in their PGY2 year where he/she will comprehensively care for his/her own practice while allowing for continued enrichment experiences via longitudinal electives. Residents get great opportunity to tailor their education to both their interests and needs.
Residents are expected to live in Chatham-Kent in their PGY1 & PGY2 year.
