SITE DIRECTOR BIO

Dr. Firas Al-Dhaher grew up in a rural community outside of London, Ontario, where his passion for rural medicine began. He graduated from Western University where he trained in rural family medicine. His clinical practice interests include emergency medicine and sports medicine. He is also very enthusiastic about medical leadership, management principles, and patient advocacy. Dr. Al-Dhaher lives with his wife and twin boys. When he’s not chasing after his sons, he can be found reading a good book or watching sports.

Petrolia (http://www.town.petrolia.on.ca/http://www.city-data.com/canada/Petrolia-Town.html) is a picturesque town of about 6,000 situated in Lambton County, also nicknamed "Canada’s Victorian Oil Town” for its role in starting the oil industry in North America. It is about a 50-65 minute drive from London and a 20 minute drive from Sarnia.

TRAINING SITE/PRACTICE DESCRIPTION

The Petrolia Family Medical Centre, part of the Petrolia Family Health Team will be the training site. It is staffed by a group of enthusiastic teachers with a wide variety of clinical interests.

Aside from the comprehensive scope of our family medicine teachers, there are a variety of visiting specialists at Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital Of Bluewater Health (http://www.bluewaterhealth.ca/) to whom residents can spend time with, additional formal training in specialty areas are provided at the two hospital sites of Bluewater Health in Sarnia(http://www.bluewaterhealth.ca/). Interprofessional learning experiences are also available within the practice as there are nurse practitioners and mental health counselors integrated into the practices.
