Announcement: Dr. Jay Rosenfield elected as President of the Medical Council of Canada

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) welcomed Dr. Jay Rosenfield, Vice-Dean of Medical Education at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry as the new Council President. Dr. Rosenfield has served on Council since 2004 and was Vice-President last year.

Effective September 1, 2018, the responsibilities related to the Vice Dean, Basic Medical Sciences role will be overseen and managed by Candace Gibson, PhD, who will be the Acting Vice Dean, Basic Medical Sciences. She will be supported by Susanne Schmid, PhD, Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and Jeff Frisbee, PhD, Chair, Medical Biophysics, and Chair of Chairs of the basic science departments.

Dr. Michael Rieder has resigned as Chair/Chief of the Department of Paediatrics and Chief of Staff of the Children’s Hospital at LHSC to return to his research and clinical practices, effective September 30, 2018. Dr. John Yoo will assume the role of Interim Chair/Chief of the Department of Paediatrics.

Congratulations to Logan Van Nynatten, Medicine Class of 2020, one of this year's recipients of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Award for Medical Students.
