Announcement: Dr. Chandlee Dickey appointed as Chair/Chief, Department of Psychiatry
We are pleased to announce Dr. Chandlee Dickey has been appointed as the Chair/Chief, Department of Psychiatry at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, effective October 15, 2018 to October 14, 2023.
Dr. Dickey earned her Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies in 1983 from Oberlin College, and MD in 1989 at Washington University School of Medicine. She completed clinical fellowships at Beth Israel Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in neuropsychiatry, and a research fellowship in neuroimaging at the Neuroscience Laboratory, Harvard Medical School. She joined Harvard Medical School as an Instructor in 1993 and is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry.
Dr. Dickey’s long time research interests are functional, structural, and social cognition and abnormalities in schizotypal personality disorder. She has made significant contributions to this field. She was the first to demonstrate gray matter abnormality in any personality disorder and describe deficits in facial emotional expression and prosody in schizotypal personality disorder. She received funding from private foundations, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and National Institute of Mental Health. In recent years, she has been heavily involved in medical education.
Dr. Dickey has held several administrative leadership positions and committee memberships. She served as the Director of Neuropsychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1997-2000; the Medical Director, Serious Mental Illness Section at VA Boston Healthcare System from 2008-2010; the Chair of the Research & Development Committee at VA Boston Healthcare System from 2009-2010; and currently is the Training Director for Harvard South Shore Psychiatry Residency. She serves as the Treasurer for the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training and is a member of the Steering Committee.
Dr. Dickey is the recipient of the following honours: the Schizophrenia Young Investigator Travel Award from the International Congress for Schizophrenia Research, NIMH in 1997; the Special Contribution Award (Team) from VA Boston Healthcare System in 2010; the Harvard South Shore Residency Program Mentor of the Year Award in 2014; the 2017 Outstanding Psychiatrist Award for Education from the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society; and induction into the American College of Psychiatrists also in 2017. This year she is being honored by Harvard Medical School through the A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award.
