Request Process

Electives in Family Medicine can be two - four weeks long, and take place in London or one of the surrounding communities.

The request period will open on July 9, 2021. Electives are booked on a first come, first served basis.

Electives can be arranged for London or surrounding rural sites. Our Department is independent from electives through the Distributed Education Program program.

Please note: Funding is not available for 2 week electives.

After you review the Community Sites available, please complete the online request form indicating what your top three choices are (dates, location, preceptor). Your request will be sent to the physician, and once confirmed, the Program Coordinator will contact you by email. Please allow four - six weeks for confirmation of an elective.

You can arrange your own elective with a family physician who is CCFP and has an adjunct faculty appointment with the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. The process would remain the same as above, students would need to send email to Program Coordinator with confirmation of dates and full mailing address of physician.

Malpractice/Liability Insurance

Students with unapproved or informal elective arrangements are not covered. This puts the student and preceptor at risk and will not be registered as an official elective with Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
