Andrew, Chatham-Kent Program
Meet Andrew, a Family Medicine resident in our Chatham-Kent Program, training at the Thamesview Centre for Family Medicine.
Where were you born and raised?
Blenheim, Ontario
Where do you practice medicine and in what scope?
Chatham-Kent, Family Medicine resident (year 1)
I wanted to train in the same part of the country that I plan to practice, so I would know what was available in my community, and how to best serve my patients.
Can you tell me about your experience in the program?
The Chatham program has been fantastic. My preceptors for family medicine and internal medicine have been stellar. There's additional teaching in Chatham - Wednesdays at lunch and Friday afternoons, and residents are very well supported.
What inspires you in your work?
The preceptors in my program give great feedback that motivates students to keep working hard and striving for excellence.
Can you recount a positive lesson you’ve taken from your residency?
People are much more approachable than you'd think. I've had so many great learning opportunities by asking physicians and other health care providers to spend a day with them, and everyone has been thrilled to have me.
What has been your greatest challenge?
Residency involves a ton of knowledge acquisition and synthesis. You have to put the time in if you're going to be good.
What special interests or hobbies do you have?
I love technology, IT, and software development, so I do a lot of tinkering with computers and networking equipment.
What would you consider your most significant career accomplishment to date?
Picking Chatham for my residency.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Working in Chatham-Kent!
What three words best describe you?
Observant, inquisitive, and thorough.
