Department Spotlight: Melissa Veens
The Department of Family Medicine would like to introduce Melissa Veens in the role of Postgraduate Program Coordinator Scheduling and Enhanced Skills.
What do you most enjoy about your role in the Department?
What I enjoy most about working in Family Medicine is interacting with and helping the residents. I like to see them through their journey to becoming doctors.
What’s been your most memorable experience while working in the Department?
My most memorable experience while working in Family Medicine was the resident graduation. It was wonderful to celebrate with the resident’s when they have finished and see all their hard work pay off. I had the opportunity to watch residents graduate that I remember from their first year of medical school when I previously worked in Undergraduate Medical Education. It was great to be part of that.
What’s your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment would be my kids. We have 5 boys aged 26 down to 5. My family is everything to me.
What do you like to do outside of work, how do you enjoy spending your time?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time on the farm with the family. We have a dog and some chickens. I like to cook, entertain friends, play cards and read books.
