- This award was established by Mrs. Margery (Nonnie) Butson in memory of her husband, Dr. Frank J. Butson (MD '50).
- Candidates will be asked to submit a one-page statement to the Office of Family Medicine outlining their commitment to Dr. Ian McWhinney's Nine Principles of Family Medicine.

- Based on academic achievement and professional characteristics.

- Established by a generous donation from Leonora Sheppard through Foundation Western.

CFPC Family Medicine Resident Scholarship
Award
Family Medicine Resident Scholarship at a value of $10,000, and up to $1,500 to attend FMF and receive the award.

Criteria
- The resident will have an interest in further enhancement of leadership skills within organized medicine.
- Nominees are eligible if they have one or more achievements in the following areas:
- Leadership activities during residency/leadership qualities (beyond departmental and program activities, such as participation in organized family medicine, the College of Family Physicians of Canada’s Section of Residents, or Resident Doctors of Canada)
- Academic achievements related to family medicine (e.g., publications)
- Research achievements
- Oral presentation skills (articulate and confident when presenting to large groups)
- Unique achievements or exceptional activities in medical school or residency
- Service to vulnerable populations, such as rural, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, addiction/mental health, inner city, etc.
- The recipient receives a scholarship at a value of $10,000 and up to $1,500 to offset travel and other expenses for attending Family Medicine Forum.
- The Selection Committee’s chosen winner will be forwarded to the Section of Teachers Council to be considered for the Val Rachlis Leadership in Family Medicine Award, which focuses on the leadership, academic, research, and communication skills of senior family medicine residents.
