Rotation Outline:
We provide a great opportunity for a real rural experience.

  1. Inpatients consultations and follow up ( ICU, ER, Surgical, Medical and Psychiatry floors.
  2. Follow-up and assessment of patients at the cardiac rehabilitation program in Goderich. A very successful program of almost 175 patients that has been running for more that 12 years. An excellent opportunity to get exposed to long term management of chronic diseases and dealing with such issues as compliance, secondary prevention etc.
  3. Pre-op consults.
  4. Post-op management of patients.
  5. Providing outpatient and inpatient consults at a visiting hospital in Walkerton, twice weekly. A service that has been ongoing for more than 10 years.
  6. General Internal Medicine consultations.
  7. The resident is expected to attend a supervised class of the cardiac rehabilitation program and deal first hand with cardiac patients while they are exercising.
  8. Exposure to echocardiography: the resident will understand the basics of echos and learning how to interpret the reports.
  9. Exposure to difficult ekgs, holters, loop recorders and pfts.
  10. Residents are expected to make a presentation to the group of family doctors on a topic of interest.
  11. The Internal Medicine resident is expected to be on first call for the E.R., ICU and inpatient consultation.
  12. There would be one or two weekends of on call with the supervisor (to be discussed with supervisor prior to rotation).
