Hospitalist Medicine - Woodstock General Hospital

Contact person: Dr. Puneet Seth, Director of Hospitalist Medicine

The goal of this program is to provide family medicine residents with exposure to a full-service community hospitalist program.

The new Woodstock General Hospital was opened in 2012, and has a 178 bed capacity, and provides specialized care to the 110,000 people in the Oxford County.

The hospitalist department provides inpatient coverage for acute medical, surgical and rehabilitation wards as MRP for orphaned patients or those whose family physicians do not have coverage in the hospital. The program is rapidly growing, and serves as a model for a quality-based practice. Our program will include one-on-one time with a hospitalist with routine and scheduled teaching, and with graduated resident independence and role responsibility as appropriate to the residents skill level.

As a resident, responsibilities will include:

  • Rounding on inpatient service, between the hours of 8AM and 5PM Monday to Friday
  • Rounding one weekend (Sat and Sunday) per month
  • Two on-call shifts per block
  • 1 weekend on serivce (8am-5pm Saturday and Sunday)
  • On average 1 on call shift per week requiring resident to stay in hospital or be within 15 min. drive. The following day post-call is provided as per PARO guidelines.
Scheduling: Can take 2 resident's for 4 week rotations
