Dr. Andrew Hemphill practices family medicine at Byron Family Medical Centre, low-risk obstetrics at Victoria Hospital, and is an assistant professor at Western University.
Dr. Hemphill completed his Bachelor of Medical Sciences at Western University before returning to his hometown of St Catharines to work in brain injury rehabilitation for two years. He then attended Western for medical school and did family medicine residency in Western’s regional program in Strathroy. He completed a fellowship in low-risk obstetrics at the University of Toronto the following year and started locuming across Ontario. He locumed as a generalist in small communities including Atikokan, Thessalon, Lindsay, Ailsa Craig, and Strathroy for three years before taking his full-time position at Western.
Dr. Hemphill has a passion for medical education, lecturing and leading small groups in Western’s undergraduate curriculum, postgraduate curriculum, and is the family medicine lead for the Transition to Clerkship course in second year medical school. He plays sports including volleyball, curling, golf, pickleball, and hockey. He loves to travel with some of his favourite locations being Madagascar, Egypt, Greece, and the Galapagos Islands. His love of travel led Dr Hemphill to pursue a Masters in Global Health and Infectious Diseases at the University of Edinburgh. His dissertation reviews the maternal and fetal effects of food-borne illnesses in pregnancy.
