Postgraduate Program Report
Faculty Advisor Meetings: It’s that time of year again! The Faculty Advisor plays an extremely important role in the resident’s personal and professional development. Please take the time to read the Faculty Advisor meeting tips. This is an opportunity to review the resident’s progress (field notes, procedure/OB logs, ITERs, Academic Credits, Resident Project, etc ...) and ensure that they are on track.
Triple C Update: The Postgraduate Education Committee met over the summer to begin the process of reviewing our curriculum in the context of meeting the Triple C requirements and accreditation standards. We have also refined the Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) that we developed as a group over the past year. Furthermore, we will begin to work on the EPAs for Leadership and Scholarship.
Certification Exam Update: As you know, as of 2016, the harmonized format of the examination will no longer be offered. Candidates taking the Certification examination in 2016 or later will need to register separately for the MCCQE Part II in order to obtain their LMCC.
There were capacity challenges for the Fall 2015 MCCQE Part II. As a result, many Family Medicine residents were unable to register. However, they will be offered pre-registration for the Spring 2016 Exam. The CFPC has also moved their exam to mid-April in order to accommodate the residents taking the MCCQE Part II in the spring of 2016. There were concerns raised by the residents that started their residency in October as they would be 2 weeks shy of meeting the training eligibility criteria to write the CFPC exam. For 2016, the CFPC will allow these residents to write the Spring exam.
There is also new MCCQE Part II eligibility criteria. Candidates expected to complete their PGY-1 by June 30 will be able to challenge the exam in May of their first year of residency. PGY1 residents should only apply if they feel confident they are prepared for the MCCQE Part II.
