Chair's Message

In the last two weeks we have heard conflicting messages from our community adjunct faculty members regarding communications within the Department of Family Medicine. One member criticized us for providing too much information about things which they deemed irrelevant, while another felt that the Department was not providing enough information in a timely manner.

It is a task for the Department to strike the right balance between information overload and keeping our community adjunct faculty members appropriately informed and engaged.

One known challenge is related to the delivery and receipt of information. As a Department, we do our best to communicate via your preferred email address; however some messages from Schulich and Western may come to your UWO email address, which we are aware, some faculty members do not use or read regularly. If you do not use your UWO address it is important to forward your UWO emails to your preferred email address so that you don't miss important information, such as your faculty appointment, for example.

This does raise another challenge, however, since you may be avoiding your UWO email to get away from the sheer volume of material that is sent to you in this manner. Going forward, we will do our best to limit communications to what we think is most relevant, however, it is important to note, what is deemed relevant to you may not be the same for your colleague in the next community.  It is impossible for us to juggle individual preferences in email content, given so many people to keep informed.

Please take this opportunity to tell us what you think about our communications with you. Too much? Too Little? The right stuff? I welcome your suggestions by email at stephen.wetmore@schulich.uwo.ca.
