Transdisciplinary Understanding and Training on Research – Primary Health Care (TUTOR_PHC) just wrapped up its annual Symposium that welcomed the 12th cohort of interdisciplinary primary health care research trainees. This year, there were 14 trainees from 12 different universities and organizations. There were 13 mentors in attendance from across Canada, including Moira Stewart, Judith Belle Brown, Graham Reid, and Amanda Terry from the Department of Family Medicine.
At the Symposium, trainees participated in workshops on primary health care, interdisciplinary research teams, grant generation, mixed methods, knowledge translation, and engaging with policy makers. This year’s curriculum features an increased focus on engaging with policy makers. This was also the first year that we delivered all presentations simultaneously in English and French.
TUTOR-PHC has been providing interdisciplinary primary health care research training since 2003. TUTOR-PHC was originally funded by CIHR’s Strategic Training Initiate in Health Research (STIHR) program from 2003 until 2014, when the STIHR program ended. TUTOR-PHC is able to continue to provide interdisciplinary primary health care research training thanks to financial support from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, CIHR SPOR SUPPORT Units in Ontario and Quebec, CIHR SPOR Networks in Quebec and Nova Scotia, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
