Program Spotlight: Care of the Elderly
As the population continues to age and live longer, the complexity of care for the elderly patient has become increasingly challenging. The Department of Family Medicine at Western University has offered an Enhanced Skills training program in Care of the Elderly for many years. The program is fully accredited by the CFPC. It has a successful track record at training family physicians with an interest in geriatric health. The goal of the Care of the Elderly program is to train family medicine residents to become leaders academically, clinically and socially for this portion of the population. It offers a unique blend of ambulatory, hospital and home based care experiences. We are currently searching for vibrant Family Medicine preceptors with an interest in care of the elderly who may be keen on offering supervision, teaching and mentoring in any capacity to our learners. Interested faculty members can contact Dr. Daniel Grushka, Enhanced Skills Program Director, and/or Dr. Scott McKay, Care of the Elderly Program Director, for more information on this exciting opportunity.
