RCPSC Subspecialty Examinations

All PGY-5 residents will be expected to submit an Application for Evaluation of an Additional Specialty to qualify for the RCPSC certification examination by the deadline date provided, by mail or by fax. Penalty fees of $525 or $1050 will apply to requests received after the deadline. Basic Science Examination (Surgical Foundations)

All PGY-2 residents will be expected to take the Surgical Foundations Examination of the Royal College in the Fall of their PGY-2 year. This will be part of the compulsory qualifying process for those residents who commenced their training in July 1984 or later.

Orthopaedic In-Training Examination (OITE)

The Orthopaedic Division expects all PGY-2 through PGY-5 residents to sit the American Orthopaedic In-Training Examination in November. All costs for this exam are assumed by the Division. This examination has no influence on the Royal College examination process, but should be viewed as a training experience and provide a self-assessment to each resident.

Orthopaedic Comprehensive Oral Examination (OSCE)

All residents are expected to take the Comprehensive Oral Examination in the Spring of each year during their PGY-3 through PGY-5 years. All PGY-4 and PGY-5 residents are also expected to participate in Mock Orals held in the Fall of each year.

In-Training Evaluations (ITERS)

At the completion of each three-month rotation, an In-Training Evaluation Report will be completed on each resident by the attending staff member. The resident will be asked to review this report with the attending staff member and it will then be forwarded to the Program Director to be utilized for an annual evaluation and subsequently to prepare the Final In-Training Evaluation Report for the Royal College.
