Rotation Orientation
Residents, who finish the rotation feeling the most fulfilled with their goals met, are those who have sought out learning opportunities. There is always something going on. We welcome your involvement.
Within practical limitations, family medicine (FM) residents are expected to care for:
- All patients of Obstetricians or Family Doctors presenting to the Labour and Delivery suite. All complex patients in the LDR should be made known to the senior (e.g., breech presentations, multiples, possible mid-forceps deliveries, severe pre-eclamptics)
- All patients presenting to the Emergency Room with gynaecologcal problems. All patients presenting to the ER should be presented first to the senior or Gyn resident.
- All patients on the the post-partum and antenatal floor. FM residents should round on all antenatal patients, all C/S patients and any vaginal deliveries they were involved in. On the weekends, FM residents should round before leaving the service or ensure that the incoming resident will see those patients. FM residents are to be supervised by the senior Ob resdient and the attending consultant or family practitioner.
- Resident teaching sessions even if post-call
- All Friday mornings in Women's Health Clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Attendance is limited to one resident and should be coordinated ahead of the day according to call and holidays
- Women's Health Clinic on Tuesdays when FM residents should go over test results
- Wednesday Grand Rounds
- Friday Specialty Rounds
- General Ob/Gyn clinics held Monday to Friday 9 a.m. -12 p.m. and 1 - 4 p.m.
- Outside calls, transfers: Please refer anyone wishing to transfer a patient into Victoria Hospital to the consultant on call
- Discharging patients: Please speak with the consultant or resident before discharging a patient.
