Resident Research

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology promotes excellence in women’s care research by providing our Residents and Fellows with opportunities to explore research areas. As we strive to initiate and complete new research projects, programs and direction at the faculty level, the department encourages the involvement of our OBGYN residents. This is both to garner interest for future clinician scientists as well as to educate our trainees about research processes and methodology.

  • Applicants must be a Resident or Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (PGY1- PGY7);
  • Must be primarily or jointly supervised by a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology; and
  • Is eligible for only one OGARR (Obstetrics & Gynaecology Award for Resident Research) per academic year (July- June) up to $750

Additional information is contained on the OGARR application.

In addition, funding is also available for research initiatives through the Natale Resident Research Fund. Dr. Natale was a fixture in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department for almost forty years until his retirement in 2018, and currently holds the title of Professor Emeritus.

Dr. Natale has over seventy published peer-reviewed articles under his name and was a research supervisor for almost twenty student and post-doctoral projects in the department. Along with the BORN database, Dr. Natale provided a vital clinical research base and scientific knowledge for obstetricians and neonatal care providers that will benefit the community well into the future.

To honour his contributions, the Department has established the Natale Resident Research Fund at Lawson to support residents and fellows with research that focuses specifically on high risk pregnancies. A maximum of $1,000 to be awarded per proposal, up to two proposals to be funded annually.

To request an application for either the OGARR or the Natale Resident Research award, please send an email to OBGYNinfo@lhsc.on.ca or Request a Form online.
