  • Dr. Maria Wu presents at the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) 38th Annual Scientific Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island

    Dr. Wu's project entitled "Pelvic Floor Muscle Training versus Watchful Waiting on Pelvic Floor Disorders in Postpartum Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis" was presented as an oral podium presentation during the general scientific session, the most prestigious format of scientific presentation at the meeting. She was the only Canadian project that was granted a presentation during the general scientific session and she spoke to a crowd of hundreds. Her project was also granted early acceptance for publication in the Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery Journal.

  • Giving hope to ALS patients: Dr. Brittney Parlett, Resident Alumna

    Residency brings many unexpected challenges. For Resident Alumna, Dr. Brittney Parlett, it was her husband Jeff Perreault being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Instead of giving up hope, Dr. Parlett excelled in her residency, cared for her husband and raised money for ALS research.

  • Drs Barbra de Vrijer, Timothy Regnault and Charles McKenzie awarded Whaley Fellowship

    Drs Barbra de Vrijer, Timothy Regnault and Charles McKenzie were awarded a Whaley Fellowship for their project entitled, “MRI of placental inflammation”. This fellowship will be used to support Dr Takashi Hashimoto, obstetrician/gynaecologist from Kagoshima city, Japan, to complete a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in London.

  • Stephanie Giza received the 2nd place Poster Award

    Stephanie Giza, PhD student with Drs Charles McKenzie and Barbra de Vrijer for the Collaborative Obesity in Pregnancy Research Group, received the 2nd place Poster Award for her e-poster entitled: Quantification of Fetal Fat Development in Mid-Late Gestation using 3D Water-Fat MRI, presented at the London Imaging Discovery Day (LIDD) in London.

  • Racing for a cure

    Originally interested in breast cancer research, Trevor Shepherd, PhD, was inspired to study ovarian cancer after realizing how little was known about the disease. Now, an established researcher in the area, he is uncovering new discoveries and generating knowledge about ovarian cancer. And as London gears up for its annual London Run for Ovarian Cancer on May 14, he’s grateful for the community’s continued support of research and its awareness programs, as ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer for women and considered to be among the most serious for this affected group.

  • Dr. Trevor Shepherd awarded UWO Collaborative Research Seed Grant (CRSG)

    CRSG provides seed funding for the formation and development of new interdisciplinary collaborative research teams. This new funding will help to promote new collaborations that build on different scientific and scholarly backgrounds, facilitate breakthroughs in solving research questions in a collaborative manner, and position Schulich Medicine & Dentistry's researchers to successfully respond to targeted requests for proposals from Tri-Council or other funding agencies.     April 23 to 29, 2017 is National Volunteer Week and the recognition is well deserved for the nearly 900 individuals who donate their time to help others at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). Each year, LHSC’s Volunteer Services holds an appreciation event where all volunteers are thanked for their work and those who have milestones over five years are recognized with a Long Service Award. For five years Jim Silcox has been volunteering his time helping answer questions for patients and visitors entering LHSC’s University Hospital from the Information Desk in the front lobby. His volunteer role is quite different from his UH role as an Obstetrician /Gynaecologist, which he began only six months after the hospital opened.

  • Dr. Matthew Cohen receives the 2017 PARO resident teaching award at Western

    The RTP Committee congratulates Dr. Matthew Cohen for receiving the 2017 PARO resident teaching award at Western. The PARO Trust Fund makes an annual $1000 award to each of the five Ontario Medical schools. The awards honour residents who have provided outstanding clinical teaching experiences to junior housestaff and clinical clerks. The winners will be honoured at the time of the PARO Clinical Teaching Awards Banquet held in May.

  • Drs. Barbra de Vrijer, Kevin Coughlin and Genevieve Eastabrook receive Children’s Health Foundation grant

    Drs. Barbra de Vrijer, Kevin Coughlin and Genevieve Eastabrook have been awarded a $50,000 Children’s Health Foundation grant for their study “Preventing childhood obesity: Improving metabolic health in the first 1000 days of life”. The purpose of this research is to find markers of poor metabolic health during pregnancy and infancy and identify modifiable environmental and nutritional factors that play a role in the future development of childhood obesity and diabetes.
