Canadian Medical Graduates
All graduates of Canadian and US accredited medical schools who have not had any previous postgraduate medical education should apply for first year (PGY1) positions through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). For detailed information on the application process, please access the CaRMS website.
The majority of our PGY1 entry positions are funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. In addition to the MOH, the Department of National Defence may have funding available for those who meet eligibility criteria. Quotas and distribution must be determined by mid-February each year (prior to the Match).
Medical students in their final year apply directly to a CFPC or Royal College specialty program at Universities across Canada. This application process is facilitated by the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).
Those who anticipate needing accommodation for any part of the residency application process may contact, in confidence, Learner Experience.
