Nelson Chan received his medical degree from the University of Toronto and completed his family medicine residency at Western. He also earned an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science (Immunology) and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Chan has a comprehensive clinical practice, including office-based work, clinic procedures, hospitalist medicine in Exeter and palliative care at the hospital and in the home.
He has a strong passion for medical education and was the Western Urban Program Director for six years. He has done research in skill acquisition and retention of skin biopsy techniques by family medicine residents.
He has taken on leadership roles such as Board Member of the Ontario College of Family Physicians (Secretary Treasurer for two years), Family Medicine Curriculum Renewal Lead at Western, Medical Director for the Sisters of St Josephs and the Family Health Organization Physician Lead.
