Staff Profile: Liz McInnis
What do you most enjoy about your role in the Department?
It has been almost nine months since I transitioned into my current role as Postgraduate Education Manager and I cannot believe how quickly time has passed! It has been exciting, busy and challenging all at the same time. Thus far, I have really enjoyed discovering how much is invested by everyone – the Program Directors, Faculty, Teaching Centers and the Administrative team to make the residency experience (with so many moving parts) a success for the residents. I am grateful for being part of a well-established team and having the opportunity to contribute to the process of training family doctors at a time when there is such need in our healthcare system.
What are you looking forward to most?
Professionally, I look forward to better understanding the complexities of the residency program and to more in person events with the residents post COVID restrictions to establish a rapport with them so that I may in a small way enhance their journey throughout the residency program. Personally, I am looking forward to the warmer weather, discovering the perennials I planted in the garden last year that I’ve already forgotten about, and planning a trip to Europe in the spring of 2024.
What’s your greatest accomplishment?
Becoming a parent and watching my son develop into a wonderful, bright young man has been my greatest accomplishment. Being a role model to a little person and then a bigger person certainly has its challenges. Parenthood helped me to understand my strengths and shortcomings and how to spin those in a positive way while raising a child. The process has shaped the person I am today.
What do you like to do outside of work, or how you enjoy spending your time, etc.
I enjoy travelling near and far and exploring antique or farmer’s markets wherever I may be. It’s always so enlightening to experience a market in another part of the world. I also enjoy being crafty, restoring/re-purposing furniture, entertaining, a nice glass of smooth full-bodied red wine, cooking and baking for family and friends, gardening and the occasional golf game.
