Department Spotlight: Laura Sparrow
What is your role in the department? I am filling in for Michele Vanderspank as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator. I am responsible for scheduling rotations all throughout Southwestern Ontario for clerkship and elective students.
What do you enjoy most about your role in the department?
I love working with students, in any capacity. Being able to interact with our faculty and make those connections is also very rewarding. Everyone has been so nice and welcoming, it has made this job a pleasure.
What are you looking forward to most?
I thoroughly enjoy making connections and meeting new people. This job allows me to interact with faculty, staff, and students from all over Southwestern Ontario.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
I would say my greatest accomplishment would be completing a year of study abroad. In my 3rd year of my undergrad, I went to Sheffield, England to study. It was a fantastic experience. I was able to travel, meet new people, and step out of my comfort zone. It was amazing!
What do you like to do outside of work, or how you enjoy spending your free time?
I am an avid gardener. I love to grow my own vegetables. At the end of the summer, I make my own salsa and hot sauce with all the veggies I harvest. I also love cooking/baking. Each weekend I like to try a new recipe and challenge myself. In my down time, when I’m not hanging out with my fiancée or cats, I love to read (anything by Stephen King – he is my favourite author!).
