Transition of Leadership
The Department of Family Medicine and the Postgraduate Program would like to announce a transition of leadership in the Postgraduate Director role from Dr. Jamie Wickett to Dr. Julie Copeland (Program Director) and Dr. Daniel Grushka (Associate Program Director) effective this coming January.
Dr. Wickett is a clinical team lead at the Victoria Family Medical Centre and has been involved with the Department since 2006 in the capacity of Adjunct Professor, Assistant Professor, Academic Program Director, Postgraduate Program Director, and Associate Professor. Dr. Wickett completed both her Bachelor of Science and MD degrees at UBC before coming to Western to complete her Family Medicine residency in 2006. In 2019, she completed her Master's of Clinical Science in Family Medicine.
Dr. Wickett’s term as Family Medicine Residency Program Director started in July, 2014 and her improvements to the curriculum and devotion to the program has been nothing short of exceptional. Dr. Wickett has made countless developments to the curriculum, from major schedule changes to large-scale changes to resident recruitment and has skillfully navigated the program throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Accreditation teams have highlighted her strong leadership and dedication to teaching.
We thank Dr. Wickett for her outstanding leadership and wish her well in her next pursuits.
The Department would also like to highlight the successes of Dr. Copeland, Dr. Grushka, and Dr. Carter and welcome them to their new roles. Our next newsletter will include a brief history of the transitioning and new Postgrad leaders. Stay tuned.
