Department Spotlight: Dr. Laura Clademenos
What program are you a resident of and what year of residency are you in?
I'm a second year resident in the Regional Program at the Mount Brydges site.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Toronto.
What degree(s) do you have, and from what university (ies)?
I have a B.Sc. in Bio-Medical Sciences from the University of Guelph and a Medical Degree from Western University
What special interests or hobbies do you have?
I love to travel, go out for dinner, play sports and read. I really enjoy going to plays and concerts, especially country ones. London's been great for that actually! My current ambition is to learn some carpentry but apartment living is throwing a wrench in that one for now.
Why did you choose to pursue your residency at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry?
I had a great experience in medical school at Schulich. I knew that I would have a strong, comprehensive experience in the Regional program and wanted to maximize the number of electives I could do in residency.
What inspires you in your work?
When I think about the scope of the practice I envision having and the patients who have put their trust in me. I want to provide highly competent, evidence based care in both the office and emergency department. It's encouraging to encounter staff physicians who are successfully pulling off my dream. My patients and mentors make me into a better resident every day.
What has been your greatest experience to date in your residency?
I would say that my favourite experiences are often the times when I look back on a clinical encounter and think "This time last year, I wouldn't have ... been as confident in that management or completed that procedure on my own or known what that skin lesion was...etc". Matching to the third year of EM was pretty phenomenal too.
What do you do when you aren’t working?
Contemplate napping or going for sushi.
