Postgraduate Program Report

MyFM Update:

On Friday, December 8 to Monday, December 11, MyFM was unavailable as it underwent a major update.

The major update will implement new exciting changes coming to the field notes. The field notes will soon be mapped to the competencies and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for our program.

Competency-based Education:

The PG committee is currently reviewing the Faculty Advisor Form, completed as part of our Faculty Advisor Program and will be implementing changes for July 1, 2018. Residents and their Faculty Advisors meet various times throughout the residency program. The purpose of the program is to provide longitudinal mentoring and support for our residents. Due to the longitudinal nature of the program, the nomenclature will change to a Periodic Review Form. The form will give more structure to the regular meetings. Please stay tuned.

Innovation in Education: 

The fourth annual Obstetrical Skills Workshop for PGY1 residents was held on November 1 at the Western Centre for Public Health and Family Medicine. Residents learned how to perform many key obstetrical procedures including artificial rupture of membranes, application of scalp clips, performing a vaginal delivery, perineum repairs and knot-tying to name a few. This day was a tremendous success, and I would like to extend a big thank you to all of those involved in the planning of and teaching at this cutting edge simulation-based workshop.

CaRMS 2018: 

The CaRMS recruitment weekends are rapidly approaching.  This is always an exciting time of year where we have the opportunity to show our enthusiasm and demonstrate to applicants why this is a great residency training program!  We can’t do this without your help so please mark your calendars with these important interview dates:

  • CaRMS IMG interviews on January 12, 2018;
  • CaRMS CMG interview weekend on January 20 and 21, 2018;

Internal Review: 

The internal review for the two-year program will take place on May 15-16, 2018.  We have started the process of completing the pre-survey questionnaires.  Many of you will be asked for input in completing these forms.  Furthermore, we will be requesting your presence at specific meetings with the internal review team.
