Program Overview
The point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) as part of our division has been established for over 20 years and has grown to become one of the leading programs in the country. Starting from humble roots with the intent of just getting ultrasound being utilized the ED, we now offer extensive training in all elements of POCUS with trainees both nationally and internationally.
Our program extends across all 3 sites and is well supported. Currently in the clinical environment we have:
- University Hospital: 2 Mindray TE7, 3 Mindray ME8, 1 Mindray TEX with TEE probe
- Victoria Hospital: 2 Mindray TE7, 2 ME8, 1 Mindray TEX, 1 Sonosite Edge with TEE probe
- St. Joseph Urgent Care Center: 1 Mindray TE7 MAX, 1 Sonosite Edge II
For purely educational purposes, our program boasts:
- 4 Sonosite machines
- Several butterfly portable probes
- Heartworks POCUS Simulator with TEE/TTE
- Bodyworks Even POCUS Simulator
- Blue Phantom simulated models for nerve blocks, peripheral IV insertion and central line insertion
