Congratulations go out to Luis Limo (supervisor: Dr. Noha Gomaa) who was awarded the 2024 IADR Lion Award in Dental Research for his MSc work examining the links between oral health, multimorbidity and access to dental care. Luis has previously received the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research-Canadian Association for Dental Research (NCOHR-CADR) travel award to present his research at the 2024 IADR in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

 Appointments

Dr. Noha Gomaa has been busy since the Winter newsletter was released! She has been acclaimed as Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR) Councillor-at-Large for the 2024-26 term, effective March 2024. Dr. Gomaa was also invited to join the Editorial Board of the Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology Journal, and she continues to serve as an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Dental Research.

Grant Announcements

Dr. Noha Gomaa was recently awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Grant for her project titled: “Better Dental Care for Healthy Aging: Barriers, Connections and Interactions.” This new grant will help Dr. Gomaa and her team investigate if and how enhancing dental care for older Canadians can contribute to better social and biological outcomes in light of the new Federal dental care plan. The project is in collaboration with Schulich’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, McMaster’s Institute for Research on Aging and the Edwin S. H. Leong Centre for Healthy Aging at the University of British Columbia.

newsletter-200-x-250-px.pngCongratulations also  to Dr. Sheila Butler for receiving an Interdisciplinary Development Initiatives grant. The new grant will help Dr. Butler and her team continue their innovative work on the role of 3-YZTP in enhancing the biocompatibility and longevity of dental implants.
