What is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program that provides coverage for Canadian residents who don’t have access to dental benefits and have a household income of less than $90,000 a year.
The CDCP is not a free dental program and it’s not intended to replace existing benefits through work, school or private plans.
Who runs the CDCP?
The Government of Canada runs the CDCP. Dentists don’t run or manage the program
Who is eligible?
You may have heard that any Canadian with an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 per year is eligible for the CDCP. However, in reality, there are three main groups that are currently able to access care under the CDCP:
- Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023
- Children under the age of 18
- Seniors over the age of 65
Even within these groups, there are certain conditions that may invalidate coverage.
Patients should check before applying to the CDCP that they:
- Don’t have access to dental insurance.
- Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000.
- Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
- Filed your tax return for the previous year
