Karla Crosara - NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship-Doctoral Award
Congratulations to Karla Crosara (PhD student supervised by Dr. Walter Siqueira), for being awarded the prestigious Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Postgraduate Scholarship-Doctoral Award ($63,000 over 36 months).
Karla’s project focuses on exploring amylase-protein interactions in saliva. Besides identifying the salivary proteins involved in the formation of complexes with amylase, her thesis aims at characterizing such interactions with attention to determining the binding kinetics of amylase and some of the novel partners, as well as verifying the effects of complex formation on the functions of the binding partners. Karla’s application was considered meritorious based on academic excellence, research, and leadership abilities.
