In Memorium: Dr. John Murray
John earned a B.A. degree from Western before attending McGill where he earned his DMD degree in 1967. After a year of general practice, John was admitted to the graduate program in orthodontics at the University of Manitoba where he earned his Master of Science Degree in 1971. Following his graduation from the University of Manitoba, he opened his orthodontic practice in London and soon after joined the newly established program in Graduate Orthodontics at the University of Western Ontario as a clinical adjunct professor. He practiced orthodontics full time and taught at Western a half-day per week for the next 40 years. Upon his retirement, and in appreciation of his great contribution to the Graduate Orthodontic program, the “John & Nancy Murray Scholarship Prize” bursary was established by his former students and friends and is awarded annually to second year orthodontic residents. Schulich Dentistry is very proud to continue to have his name associated with our School.
John was a wonderful teacher, mentor and colleague for multiple generations of orthodontic residents and a great friend to all faculty, staff and students. John enjoyed life to the fullest and every year he offered to the residents his much anticipated off campus summer seminar. He was a great story teller, quick to laugh, and the life of any social gathering. He will be dearly missed.
