QI for Divisions and Departments
Divisions and departments have unique quality improvement needs. If you are a division/department chair or a program director, you have likely wondered whether you could implement some form of quality improvement program within your group to address both educational (e.g. QI-specific EPA, accreditation) and clinical (health care quality) gaps. Perhaps your group received a “needs improvement” in quality & safety on your last Royal College accreditation. Maybe the members of your group are struggling with some aspect of the current work system, and it is taking a toll on both their quality of work life and timeliness/effectiveness of care delivery.
It does not have to be that way. There is a viable way to design and install a system of continuous improvement such that pain points are effectively identified, captured, analyzed, and addressed. Although frustrating problems will never cease emerging, you will at least be confident that you have a system in place to deal with them.
None of us here at the Schulich Medicine, Western University have yet achieved this ideal state, but at the Centre for Quality, Innovation, and Safety (CQUINS) we are obsessed with the journey to get there. If you are reading this, you have already taken the first step in the journey; a leader who is committed to the philosophy of improvement is the journey’s most essential step. The next step, identifying and cultivating a passionate individual who is skilled in quality improvement methodology, is where we can help you.
At CQUINS, we are hyper-focused on making, supporting, and promoting excellent quality improvement practitioners. Through a variety of educational materials ranging from free tutorials & tools all the way to intense one-on-one coaching, we will instill the spirit and methods of QI into your group’s QI champions.
Regardless of where you are in your quality improvement journey, we will meet you there.
