Congratulations to the Schulich community on your recent achievements:

Congratulations to Professor Lorelei Lingard, Centre for Education Research & Innovation at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry for being one of four Western University faculty to earn the title of Distinguished University Professor. She was recently named along with Professor Kathy Hibbert from the Faculty of Education, Lars Konermann from the Faculty of Science, and X. A. (Andy) Sun from the Faculty of Engineering.

Congratulations to Andrew Pruszynski and Shawn Whitehead for both being awarded the Faculty Scholars Award and being recognized for their significant recent scholarly achievements in teaching and research.

Congratulations to Dr. Leonard Luyt, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Chemistry, and Oncology for just recently being awarded the designation of Faculty Scholar. Dr. Luyt, is a collaborator on a new UBC research project, Rare Isotopes to Transform Cancer Therapy, which recently received a $23.7M federal grant through the New Frontiers in Research Fund.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory of Medicine would like to offer congratulations to Damir Rosic, who has completed his MSc in Pathology. Drs. Christina McCord and Zia Khan are Damir’s supervisors. The title of Damir’s thesis is "Characterizing Human Papillomavirus Associated Oral Epithelial Dysplasia."

After 23 years of dedicated service, Dr. Jessica Shepherd has retired from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine effective April 1, 2023. Jessica was a valued member of the department and a member of the hematopathology, lung and GI teams. Her expertise and contributions to teaching and program leadership will also be sincerely missed.

Congratulations to Bertha Garcia for being awarded The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Mentorship Award and Lorelei Lingard for receiving the AFMC President’s Award for Exemplary National Leadership in Academic Medicine.

The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) today announced the recipients of its scholarships. Congratulations to Dr. Les Kalman, Assistant Professor in restorative dentistry at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, for being awarded the Randy Stevens Scholarship for educators in additive manufacturing.

Congratulations to Dr. Fred Dick, Ph.D., for receiving funding from the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) for his research that will help develop new cancer medicines for patients. His research investigates new therapies to treat ovarian cancer more effectively by targeting ‘dormant’ cancer cells.
