Award: Dental student receives inaugural national scholarship
Congratulations to Jona Szakacs, Dentistry Class of 2020, who has received the inaugural dentalcorp Academic Excellence Award.
This new national scholarship program recognizes exemplary scholastic achievement, extracurricular involvement and the embodiment of the values of innovation, collaboration and excellence. Recipients receive full tuition reimbursement for their dental education and a two-year contract with dentalcorp following graduation.
Only one scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating dental student in Canada. dentalcorp also awards scholarships to graduates from Canadian dental hygiene and dental assistant programs.
“During the past four years I have worked hard to do well in my courses and be active in the Schulich Dentistry community, but I never expected to be rewarded for my efforts, let alone in this capacity,” said Szakacs. “It’s truly an honour to receive this recognition on a national level. I am grateful to dentalcorp for choosing to support me in my career.”
In July, Szakacs begins a General Practice Residency program at the University of Alberta, an additional year of advanced instruction in general dentistry. He plans to return to the Calgary area to be close to family and practice as a general dentist.
