Research News: New research underscores the importance of the measles vaccine

Researchers at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry have shown that the measles virus can infect and kill a type of white blood cell known as MAIT cells, potentially compromising a person’s ability to fight other infections. The research underscores the importance of vaccination against the measles virus.
Announcement: Four new Canada Research Chairs named at Western, one renewed

Kelly Anderson has been selected as the Canada Research Chair in Public Mental Health Research at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Joy MacDermid was named as the CRC in Musculoskeletal Health Outcomes and Knowledge Translation. Andrew Pruszynski was also renewed as the CRC in Sensorimotor Neuroscience.

A new survey led by researchers at Western University is exploring the experiences of trans and non-binary Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic – statistics that until now were largely invisible in the Canadian data. The first reports shown that during the pandemic, more than 30 per cent of trans and non-binary Canadians had interruptions to health care and one in ten avoided COVID-19 testing/care.
Research News: Improving quality of life for patients with Frontotemporal Dementia
