Announcement: Dr. Jeffrey Reiss appointed Interim Chair/Chief, Department of Psychiatry
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Reiss has been appointed Interim Chair/Chief, Department of Psychiatry in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, effective January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017.
Dr. Reiss graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba in 1982. He completed his residency in Psychiatry and FRCPC (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) in 1986, and Master of Science in Psychiatry/Neuropsychoendocrinology in 1989 at the University of Manitoba. In 2008, Dr. Reiss was recruited to London where he has held the positions of Professor and Chair of the Division of General Psychiatry, in the Department of Psychiatry at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and as City-wide Site Chief of the Mental Health Program at London Health Sciences Centre. Since 2012, he has also been the Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Reiss’ main clinical work has been in the area of adult general psychiatry. His special areas of clinical expertise include Sexual Dysfunction and Schizophrenia. His research activities have been in the areas of psychiatric neuroimaging, psychopharmacology, and cognitive function of schizophrenia and anxiety disorders; evolutionary psychiatry and applied health technology/mental health systems.
Dr. Reiss serves on a number of department, hospital, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, and professional committees, including previously as the Vice-Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee (2010-2011). He has also held numerous leadership positions in regional, provincial, and national medical organizations and societies.
In 2007, Dr. Reiss was elected to Distinguished Fellowship of the American Psychiatric Association for exceptional contributions to Psychiatry, and was awarded Distinguished Fellowship status in the Canadian Psychiatric Association (2012) for his exemplary contributions to Psychiatry.
