Dr. Hugh Allen receives Order of Ontario
Dr. Hugh Allen, MD’48, has received the Order of Ontario for his more than six decades of commitment to the field of medicine.
Dr. Allen, who retired in 2012, is an internationally recognized surgeon and specialist in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. He pioneered new surgical techniques and approaches to women’s health care, and has travelled to more than 30 countries to share his clinical insights and skills with other medical professionals.
An innovator at heart, Dr. Allen explained this recognition came as a total surprise and that it is a great feeling to be added to the list amongst the other wonderful and talented appointees.
“No one does this kind of work with the expectation of being rewarded with anything other than the satisfaction of doing your best work in the interest of many people,” he explained. “I have a passion for women’s health care, so it is a huge honour to be recognized in this particular manner for the work I have done throughout my career.”
