Residents honoured with Sisters of St. Joseph Award of Excellence
Drs. Golnaz Naderkhami, Siobhan Telfer and Marie Dion, all residents with the Division of Urology, Department of Surgery, have been honoured with a Sisters of St. Joseph Award of Excellence. They have been recognized for embracing the values of St. Joseph’s Health Care London and making a difference with a positive attitude, sense of teamwork, and patient-centred focus.
“Residency training is hard work,” said Dr. Chris Watling, associate dean, Postgraduate Medical Education. “These residents, through their consistent striving for excellence, are role models for all of us.”
The package supporting the nomination offered up numerous stories about the commitment and dedication of the trio. From providing one patient with a birthday card, and accompanying another on a transfer to London Health Sciences following a code blue, to counselling a young man who was dealing with testicular cancer, they have become known for going the extra mile.
“These three residents have distinguished themselves by their exemplary patient care,” said Dr. Hassan Razvi, professor and chair, Division of Urology. “We are immensely proud of their achievement.”
This is the first time in the 25-year history of the awards program that a resident has been a recipient. “To have three residents receive this year’s award is absolutely thrilling,” said Dr. Watling. “On behalf of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, I offer my warmest congratulations to them.”
The residents received the award on March 19, which is the Feast of St. Joseph Day.
