Pragmatic clinical trials are a type of clinical research designed to evaluate the effectiveness of medical interventions in real-world settings. Using randomization, they provide valuable insights into how treatments and interventions perform in diverse settings and populations. Trial results are typically highly generalizable and readily translatable into healthcare policy and clinical care, thus bridging the gap between highly controlled research and actual practice.

The HRDN Canada Pragmatic Trials Training Program is a Clinical Trials Training Platform funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and coordinated by the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. Using project-based learning, this two-year virtual pan-Canadian program will provide training to advanced learners across three streams:


About Western University

In January 2023, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) directed over $31M to support seven clinical trial training platforms. Western University received $3.48 M to develop the HDRN Canada Pragmatic Trials Training Program under the leadership of Dr. Amit Garg, Nominated Principal Investigator and Associate Dean, Clinical Research, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University.
