Message from the Chair/Chief of The Department of Paediatrics
As one of the four Children’s Hospitals in Ontario the Paediatric Department at Western is proud and privileged to provide care to children in southwestern Ontario and beyond, with our clinical programs reaching as far as Thunder Bay. With a referral base of more than 2 million people, our Department provides a complete range of secondary and tertiary paediatrics while our partners in Paediatric Surgery have one of the most active and productive paediatric surgery programs in Ontario.
The Department has 90 faculty, a number that is growing rapidly as we expand to meet our regional mandate and establish new services and new programs. An academic Department of Paediatrics is built on three cornerstones, clinical excellence, outstanding education and impactful research. The core of our postgraduate program is our Paediatric Residency, and as a mid-size Department with only four fellowship programs resident interact with faculty on a daily basis. Our Program Leadership, from the Program Director down, are committed to excellence in education, a vision shared by all members of the Department.
We have a number of partners who work with us to ensure the excellence of our residency, including the Thames Valley Children’s Centre, the Children ‘s Health Research Institute and our regional faculty ranging from Windsor to Thunder Bay.
In addition to being a great place to train, London and our surrounding region is a great place to live. A wide range of activities are available across the region, from hiking in the Bruce Penninsula to world class theatre in Stratford and outstanding dining in Windsor.
On behalf of the Department I welcome you to consider London – as a 30-year resident of London I guarantee you will love it!
