Dr. Janice Tijssen completed her medical school from McGill University in 2006 and went on to complete her Paediatric Residency and obtain her FRCPC in 2010 from the joint training program of McMaster University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. She went on to complete her critical care training at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where she was the Chief Fellow. She recently completed her Masters of Science in Health Services Research at the University of Toronto. She completed the Faculty Scholars Program at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) at Western.

Her research interests include cardiac arrest and health care access. She is a member of the Paediatric Life Support Taskforce for the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) and is involved in producing internationally accepted resuscitation guidelines adopted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Dr. Tijssen is also researching the effect that barriers such as geography, distance, climate, and lack of local specialists have on access to and quality of healthcare. She is the medical director for the Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre's Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) education program and the Paediatric Critical Care Outreach Team (PCCOT).
