Dr. Asuri N. Prasad, MBBS, MD Pediatrics, FRCPC, FRCPEdin, FAES is a Professor in Paediatrics with continuing appointment (Provost Stream) and is cross-appointed to the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) (University of Delhi, India) and completed his residency training in Paediatrics at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. He continued his training in Paediatrics and Neonatology in the UK, completing his MRCP(UK) in Paediatrics and Child Health. He pursued speciality and subspecialty training in neurology (Memorial University of Newfoundland) and paediatric neurology at Tufts-New England Medical Centre Hospitals, Boston, MA., USA. He completed his fellowship in paediatric epilepsy and clinical electroencephalography at the Floating Hospital for Children @ New England Medical Centre Hospitals, Boston, MA, USA. He is certified as a specialist in Paediatrics(1992) and Neurology (1996) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He completed his board certification in Paediatrics and Neurology with special certification in Paediatric Neurology with the American Board of Paediatrics (1992) and American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (1996). His clinical appointment includes duties as Staff Paediatric Neurologist to the Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre.
He co-directs the Neurogenetic and Neurometabolic Clinic in collaboration with Dr. C. Prasad in Medical Genetics and Metabolism. He is a member of the multidisciplinary team running the Rett Syndrome Clinic in collaboration with Dr. V. Siu in the Genetics Program and the Neurofibromatosis clinic. Dr. Prasad has pursued an active academic and research career along with his clinical practice. In addition to publishing peer-reviewed papers in several international medical journals, and research abstracts presented at national and international conferences.
His research interests currently focus on clinical aspects of orphan disorders in neurogenetics and neurometabolic disease, their diagnosis and treatments. He is also funded by the Ontario Brain Institute and focuses on the epidemiology and natural history of childhood epilepsy and co-morbid disorders using population-based survey databases. His research work has has been widely cited (1318 citations, h index 21 (excluding self citations and a Research Gate Score 34.77). He has served as a reviewer for research manuscripts for several journals including; Neurology, Epilepsia, Archives of Disease of Childhood, Developmental Medicine Child Neurology, and Journal of Paediatric Neurology. He has been an invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings in Canada, India, Spain, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.
He has served on scientific committees of the American Epilepsy Society and the Canadian Association of Child Neurology. He is a member of several academic societies including the American Academy of Neurology, Child Neurology Society, Canadian Neurosciences Federation, the Canadian Association of Child Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, American Society of Human Genetics, Child Neurology Society and the Garrod Association of Canada. He is a nominated member of the Faculty of 1000 by the International League Against Epilepsy. He has served (2010-2016) in various positions as a member of the executive council of the Canadian Neurosciences Federation, the Audit Committee and Vice Chair of the International Development Committee of the Canadian Neurosciences Federation. He held several positions in the executive and is a Past President of the Canadian Association of Child Neurology. He continues to serve on the Publication Committee for the Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences.
