Dr. Justin Lam
Paediatric Hospital Medicine
Dr. Justin Lam is a Pediatric Hospitalist in the Clinical Teaching Unit at the Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor at Western University.
He completed an undergraduate degree in Art History at Stanford University and went on to complete his medical degree, paediatrics residency, and academic general paediatrics fellowship at the University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children, where he served as one of the Chief Residents. His clinical interest is in the care of hospitalized children. He is also a PhD candidate in Health Professions Education Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation (IHPME) in collaboration with the Wilson Centre at the University of Toronto.
His research uses qualitative methods to track hidden curriculum and governmentality effects related to professional identities of trainees and faculty, with an interest in equity issues in clinical and learning environments. His work has been has been supported by the Vanier scholarship and the Robert Maudsley Fellowship and published in journals such as Academic Medicine and Medical Education. His aim is to make learning environments more effective, fair, and accountable for teachers and learners, with the ultimate goal of supporting learning and contributing to better patient care.
