Dr.Luis Altamirano-Diaz, born in Peru, studied medicine in Bolivia then moved to Australia where he trained in paediatrics and paediatric cardiology; after completing his training he moved to Canada where he had a further year of training in paediatric cardiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Following his year in Toronto, he moved to Edmonton for two years where he trained in paediatric heart transplant and heart failure and on his second year conducted a research study in functional echocardiography in paediatric heart transplant patients.
He is currently an Associate Professor in Paediatrics (Cardiology) in the Department of Paediatrics at Western University, and Associate Scientist, Division of Children's Health & Therapeutics, Children's Health Research Institute (CHRI)
Dr.Altamirano-Diaz's research interest is the assessment of heart function using advanced echocardiographic techniques in paediatric patients with chronic conditions that can affect the heart including chronic kidney disease, diabetes, obesity and arterial hypertension. He is also interested in studying the model of care
