Biography

Dr. Prefontaine received his MD from the Université de Montréal  in 1978. He completed an internship and his obstetrics and gynecology residency at McGill University in 1983. He then completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at McMaster University and the University of Toronto in 1985.

His previous academic appointments include positions as assistant professor and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Ottawa, and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Tufts University in Massachusetts.

Dr. Prefontaine is currently associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Western  University.

Dr. Prefontaine is one of four gynecologic oncologists at the London Health Sciences Centre and the London Regional Cancer Program. He also sees patients once a month at the Grey Bruce Hospital in Owen Sound, Ontario.  His practice includes consultation, surgery and chemotherapy for the management of women with gynecologic malignancies.

Dr. Prefontaine has a major interest in education and is the program director for the residency training program in obstetrics and gynecology at Western University. In that role he is actively involved in the preparation of the transition to competency based medical education for the specialty at the national level.
