Milestones-Competency-based Education Workshop
Presentation & Discussion: "From Competence by Time to Competence by Design: the Coming of CBME"
Dr. Jason Frank, Director of Specialty Education at the Royal College will describe the coming changes to residency education in Canada, and why they are coming. Program directors and all those involved in residency education will not want to miss the news about: assessment, accreditation, milestones, the end of the FITER, and an end of the use of time as a basis of competence.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the rationale for the move to Competency-based Medical Education in Canada
2. Describe how a CBME program can be different than what we are doing now
3. Describe the Royal College's new Competence by Design initiative and the new model of training
This workshop will be of interest to Postgraduate Residency Training Program Directors and Senior Residents.
