General Surgery Rounds
Learning Objectives:
- To review current surgical cases, along with the management plan and options
- To review corresponding radiology and pathology
- To promote awareness of possible complications associated with surgical procedures
- To review current literature and outcomes
- To promote and assess the CanMEDS competencies: Communicator, Scholar, Professional, Collaborator, Manager, Health Care Advocate & Medical Expert. A medical expert should function effectively as a consultant, integrating all of the CanMEDS roles to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centered medical care.

- Review techniques for managing the multiple trauma patient
- Discuss the possible complications that may be associated with procedures commonly performed in the trauma patient & discuss ways to prevent or minimize them if possible

- To review current best practice treatment of colo-rectal, pancreatic, gastric, and hepatobiliary malignancy.
- To review current clinical protocols and trials.
- To obtain broad opinion regarding difficult and complex cases.
