This primarily clinical course completes the process of the learner becoming a competent beginning dental practitioner in Canada. This course provides exposure and experience in all clinical disciplines of oral health care for patients of all ages, including exposure to various community, public health, and distributed learning experiences.

These case-based lectures provide practical interpretive experience of various diseases, including inflammation, benign, and malignant processes. The course emphasizes a systematic approach to radiographic interpretation and the development of differential diagnoses through a structured algorithm.

The fourth-year program is a direct continuation of the third-year program with consolidation of the basic principles of Oral Surgery and their application to increasingly complex case management.

The course will review and ensure the clinical application of the new classifications of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions, understanding and clinical application the principles of interactions between the restorative dentistry and periodontics, and introduce the class to evidence-based treatment guidelines for periodontitis published by the EFP in 2021.

This course addresses practice administration topics to assist in the transition from student to dentist. Emphasis will be placed on applying basic principles of practice administration, financial and personnel management to a dental practice and applying accepted principles of ethics and jurisprudence to maintain standards and advance knowledge and skills.

This course in Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry will build upon the knowledge base and clinical skills established in previous years. For this reason, the Division will question or examine students on past course work. Additionally, the expectation is that students will carry forward information relevant to Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics but learned in other disciplines.
